What do I do with the ZIP file you sent me?

When you download your scanned photos from Smash, you’ll receive a single ZIP file (it usually looks like a folder with a zipper icon).

What is a ZIP file?
A ZIP file is just a compressed folder that holds all your scanned images together. It makes the download faster and keeps your photos organised.

How to open your ZIP file

On Windows:
Right-click the ZIP file.
Choose “Extract All…”
Select where you want to save the photos (the Desktop is fine).
Click Extract – A new folder will appear with all your scanned images inside.

On Mac:
Double-click the ZIP file.
Your Mac will automatically “unzip” it and create a new folder with the same name right next to it.

On an iPhone or iPad:
Tap the ZIP file in your Files app.
Tap Preview Content or Uncompress. The photos will appear in a new folder.

On an Android phone or tablet:
Tap the ZIP file in your Files or My Files app.
Select Extract or Unzip. Your device will show the extracted photos.

What if I don’t see the photos after unzipping?
Once extracted, look for a new folder (not the original ZIP file). Open that folder, and you’ll find your scanned images ready to view or share.

Do I need to keep the ZIP file after?
Not necessarily. Once you’ve extracted the photos and checked that everything opened correctly, you can delete the ZIP file to save space.
